chili for a chilly day

i’ve had president obama’s family chili recipe saved in my recipe box for a while now and today i finally decided to try it out.

i poured my ground turkey based chili over some brown rice, topped it with greek yogurt instead of sour cream and made jalapeño & chive corn bread* to go with it on the side.  it was quite yummy and perfect for a chilly sunday evening.

*fake it, don’t make it recipe tip: just add jalapeños & chives to a box of jiffy’s corn bread mix and voila!  instant deliciousness!  🙂

easy like sunday morning

after unintentionally falling asleep super early last night, i woke up this morning with the urge to make a yummy breakfast with jill scott collaborations playing in the background.  it’s definitely one of my favorite albums.  a good mix of songs to groove to and play from beginning to end on any given day, especially on a easy sunday morning like today.

my music inspired menu this morning turned out to be whole wheat french toast with fresh strawberries and veggie patties on the side.  i had the coffee but was definitely missing the mimosa.  maybe next sunday…

all you need is love…

a quote by Charles M. Schulz:

“All you need is love.  But a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt.”

i couldn’t agree more.  and nothing says love better than baking someone their favorite cake just ’cause.  no birthday.  no special occasion.  just a regular plain ‘ol tuesday.

those lovable and huggable salt and pepper shakers were a gift from a friend of mine years ago and remain one of my favorite (and cutest) things in the kitchen.

happiest hour

happy hour is great, but happy hour on friday is the happiest!  (especially after a loooooong work week.)

it’s a great way to end the work week and a fun way to start the weekend.  for me, it’s also a nice time to catch up with friends while enjoying good eats and drinks for cheap.  🙂

i think desserts served in mason jars is pretty darn cute, but dessert served in glassware… now that’s classy!

happy friday & happy weekend!!!

the gift of sushi

just when i thought sushi couldn’t get any cuter, sakae sushi in gardena, puts it in a box and wraps it up.

made me think of my recent post, in the details.  this was definitely one of those little details i saw today.  and it definitely brought a smile to my face.  when the lady behind the counter handed me the box, i felt like a giddy little girl with a present someone just surprised me with. it was such a fun experience unwrapping my gift box of sushi when i got home and opening the box to see this beautiful presentation laid out in front of me.

as i was taking pictures of my lunch today, i couldn’t help but think of how very well represented those sushi erasers and sushi usb drives are.  🙂
