blushing pearl

a friend of mine recently purchased her very own letterpress machine (a vintage chandler & price 8×12) and is now a one woman printing machine! (well, two if you count her cute little “bula bear” dog as her assistant).

marsinah and i met in a design class at cal state long beach about 10 years ago and we’ve been friends ever since. marsinah has recently started her very own company called, blushing pearl, and i am so excited for this new venture of hers. we met up yesterday for our typical get-together-and-catch-up sushi dates and she gave me a set of her beautiful letterpress notecards that i just had to show off and share with you all.

i don’t think photographs do letterpress printing justice.  to truly appreciate the art of letterpress, you MUST be able to feel the paper and run your fingers accross the texture and imprint of the design.  it really is like “a kiss to the paper” as marsinah explains in her letterpress printing process.

if you want this notecard for yourself or know someone that would absolutely love these as a gift, you can purchase them on her Blushing Pearl Etsy Shop.  she’s got plenty of other designs as well and constantly adding new stuff so check her out and show her some love!!!

i can’t wait to collaborate with marsinah on future projects and be able to offer “in a card” designs with “blushing pearl” letterpress printing!

la dolce vita

i recently had the honor of helping plan my cousin joan’s 40th birthday party.  when an italian party was decided on, i immediately knew the theme would be “la dolce vita,” which translates to “the sweet life” in italian.  what a perfect way to celebrate a birthday milestone, with a night full of all the sweetest things in life… food, drinks, music, and an intimate party with your closest friends and family.

from classy invitations by in a card to set the theme and tone of the evening…

to a complimenting and really “sweet” party favor…

each party favor, by in a card, had a little thank you note tucked inside and was sealed with a picture of joan when she was a little girl to remind everyone that she is “fabulous at every age!”

for decorations, i arranged fresh flowers and candles throughout the house

freshly picked from the downtown L.A. flower mart that morning, with the help of joan’s husband, jonathan, who is also by the way the person responsible for throwing this fabulous party to honor his wife

5 different wines plus italian cream sodas to wet the palette while enjoying caprese salad, chicken parmigiana, lasagna and garlic bread from a wonderful local deli, claro’s italian market

and what party wouldn’t be complete without dots cupcakes (served with a side of cannoli of course, from claro’s)

it was a wonderful party enjoyed by all and hopefully a very memorable one for the, always fabulous, birthday girl.

saying “thank you” is as equally important as saying “please”

after the party is over, thank you cards MUST be sent out!!!

these are the corresponding thank you notes to the

mad hatter invitiations my niece will be sending out to express her gratitude to all the kids that attended her party and all the wonderful gifts she received.

and no i don’t think a child is ever too young (or too old) to learn the etiquette of writing a thank you note. 🙂

little cupcake

for my neice’s 1st birthday we had a cupcake themed party.

this was the invitation and matching thank you note that was sent out to each guest.

cupcake invitation & thank you

each handcut and handcrafted invitation included the die-cut cupcake invitation along with a little sheet of directions tucked inside the back that fit nicely in a polka dot vellum pocket. and to top it off, an image of my niece was used as a little topper on the cupcake.

cupcake thank you

my mom decorated over 50 cupcakes and displayed them on a three tier stand and i topped it off with a die-cut image of my niece from her most recent 1 year old photo shoot.
