dots around the world

over the weekend i helped mind’s eye design studio install a rather large (approx. 9′ tall x 33′ wide) vinyl wall decal project in a new office space for The A21 Campaign.

here are some pics we managed to take of our day in progress…

ta-dah… the completed piece!

the red dots mark current office locations.  as more offices are opened, more red dots will be replacing the white ones.  love this idea!

day 6 – #dailysoul

day6_dailysoul

“attack of the giant clothespin! my friend always likes to leave me things to find around the house after she leaves that make me laugh hours after she’s gone.”

day6_dailysoul2

“today’s #dailysoul requires 2 pics. this is the same friend that leaves me those silly things around the house. see why i’m never short of laughter?”

i am forever grateful for the laughs and the girl behind them… april.  she somehow is able to just make everything more fun.  work, yoga, running errands, even a trip to cvs!

this morning after laughing our way through our yoga class, our instructor jokingly said that he’ll have to separate us in class from now on because we are having too much fun.  to that i say, maybe it’s not that we are having too much fun, but that everyone else is not having as much fun as we are!  🙂

geometry and friends

last weekend, i went to the art opening for geometry and friends, which is the current exhibition at the huntington beach art center foundation.

GEOinvite

Geometry is found within nature, the sciences, and in our daily lives. Natural forms such as the spiral in the nautilus shell and galaxies are linked to the golden mean and Fibonacci numbers growing exponentially. And while interpreted models of the universe from ancient times to present, and its representation of space conjures up the innovations of geometric imaginations to define the cosmos, “Geometry and Friends” explores the geometric variations in practicing artists. Eclectic ideas of time, space, man vs. nature, and mysticism mingles with fact and fictions of different realities.

geometry and friends, is a beautiful collection of artwork from 9 different artists.  so proud that my friend, april kawaoka, is one of the artists in this group exhibition.  here are a few snapshots i took with my iphone.

these photos don’t do the actual pieces justice so take my word and head on over to this exhibit before it ends, april 6, 2013, and see for yourself.

hello my name is…

I R E N A

pronounced, ee-ray-nuh

whether at starbucks or a restaurant, when asked for my name, a part of me has always wanted to just make up a common everyday name.  a name that people would get immediately, know how to spell, say and write.  however, my conscious takes over me and i end up saying my real name, because somehow i feel like they’ll know i’m lying if i say anything other than irena.  even though, clearly they wouldn’t and probably don’t even care.

but i guess in the back of my mind, i do.  i care.  i like my name and i’m proud of it.  it’s unique like me, and plus, why should i pretend i’m someone else?

so even though my starbucks orders will always end up looking like this 98% percent of the time…

starbucks_wrong

once in a blue moon, i meet someone that falls in the 2% category and gets it juuuust right! without having to ask me twice or how to spell it, they scribble my name down and when i grab for my coffee and see it spelled correctly, i just smile.  real big.  yay!!!
