save the world tour

i’ve had the pleasure of working with jennifer, at sunsets, inc. for the past 3 years.  recently jennifer made a selfless life changing decision to sell her car, give up her condo and leave her work to follow her dreams of helping others by creating, “Save the World Tour.”

What is the ‘Save the World Tour’?
A self-made solo 6 month journey consisting of 17 weeks of hands-on volunteering in an effort to help others and to make a positive difference in the world. The first month will consist of volunteering in California, then volunteering will continue to Ghana, Kenya, Southern India, and Cambodia. I will also be traveling to Egypt, Uganda, Northern India, and Thailand during the trip.

Mission of the ‘Save the World Tour’
To journey across the World lending a helping hand and carrying unconditional love and kindness to those in need through volunteering. To return to the United States with first-hand knowledge of the social, economical, and environmental issues around the world and to use the knowledge gained during trip to continue to make a positive change in a bigger way…

you can read more about jennifer and her inspiring story here as well as donate to Save the World Tour.

jennifer, you are a true inspiration to us all and i am so proud of you!

as a freelance graphic designer, you rely greatly on referrals.  lucky for me, i’ve met some pretty awesome people over the years and they in return they have referred me to even more awesome people.

after working via email and phone for the past half year, i finally got a chance to meet jana, of jana williams photography, in person.  besides being a sweet southern gal with a killer sense of style, jana is also as beautiful, inside and out, as the pictures she takes!  you may have even seen some of her work, as she’s been published in lots of magazines, such as elle, c magazine, inside weddings and bello to name a few.  she even got the cover of style me pretty’s: best of 2012 magazine recently!

after discussing her ideas on the new direction she is hoping to achieve with her new blog site, i immediately knew it was going to be a fun project.  plus, i got to work with mind’s eye design studio again for all the web programming stuff.  it was a win, win situation for me!

here’s a look at the new jana williams photography blog: janafromalabama.com.

pajama love

i think it’s safe to say that my love of pajamas began at a young age.  sort of like my love for all things stationery related.

ina_pjs

and as i’ve gotten older, my pajama collection definitely has grown as well.

my favorite pajama company is p.j.salvage.  they’re pajamas are well made, super soft, and they have super cute and fun prints.  the sushi and heart pajamas pictured above are made by them and were gifted to me almost 10 years ago.  see what i mean by well made?

paper sampling

as a graphic designer and lover of all things stationery related, you can say i’m a bit of a paper snob.  when i’m given a business card, a brochure or even a restaurant take out menu, my first instinct is to examine the paper, feel the texture, see if any special printing method was applied and sometimes there can even be a distinct good paper smell.  i know, weird, right? but, i can’t help it.

to me, paper for a printed collateral is like the icing on the cake. any special printing methods or embellishments used is the cherry on top.  in other words, very important for the overall presentation.  so with each project where i am a part of the printing process, i like to make sure all options are presented, including every single ivory/off-white stock paper i can get my hands on.  and i mean every single textured, speckled and shade possible.

i then will share a small, labeled sample of each to the client so they can decide which paper suits them and their needs the best.

sometimes it may also help to print a mock up sample of the design on each paper.  this gives the client the best representation of what the final piece will look like.

this is a sneak peak of what the new and improved silhouPETte packaging will include.  A backer card, that each charm necklace will hang off of and placed in those gorgeous foil embossed kraft boxes, previously designed.

looking forward to seeing which paper card stock gets chosen for the final piece!
